Cake Making Instructions

A celebration needs a cake.  It’s OK to order a flat cake with some writing on it.  But a home-make cake decorated by you in the party theme makes the party special.

How do you get started?  I went to a local class and also sought out a mentor.  That mentor is important because you need a person to go to with unexpected questions and cake emergencies.

The advice from my teacher I remember best is “Never waste a good cake.”  The cake may break.  Glue it together with frosting.  Also frosting covers uneven spots.

My advice would be to have plenty of paper towels.  Clean up is big.  Also, don’t feel obligated to consume cake trimmings and leftover frosting.  Find someone else to do that.  You know the results of too much carbs.

Start simple.  Children love any cake with candles and a purchased topper.  You can even handle wedding cakes with fresh flower decorations.

Youtube has a ton of cake making tutorials.  These are best after you’ve made a couple attempts.  The more you practice, the more you will understand.  And remember – there are no failures.  There are just interesting cakes.  I start with a pattern in my mind, but every cake seems to develop it’s own character.
